Following a grant for 900, Haverhill women's group Wednesday for Women has launched a library for its local community.

Haverhill has welcomed its first ever toy library, offering local families a roster of play sessions, story readings and toys to rent for just 1.

The library was launched following the efforts of a local women and young mother’s support group called Wednesday for Women and ONE Haverhill.

Wednesday for Women has had a toy library in place since the group’s formation in 1997, however until now this was only open to members of the group.

Following a grant for £900 from ONE Haverhill, the group has now launched its initiative to the wider community, with new toys and events.

"The toy library was really beneficial to my children when they were younger,” Fenella Simmons, Wednesday for Women group co-ordinator, told Haverhill Echo.

"So I thought, let’s open up a toy library that anyone can use.”

The money will be used to aid the professional development of the staff at the group’s crèche as well as booster the library’s offering of toys, story sacks and educational items for kids.

Toys can also be rented for £1 for a week.

"We wanted to keep it affordable, so 1 a week is doable for everybody,” concluded Fenella.
